Each July, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) celebrates Park and Recreation Month.
This year’s theme is "Get Your Play On." What an appropriate focus for our own Dallas park system since the summer is a busy time of family and individual activity.
Summer camps, adult sports leagues, Zumba classes, bike and walking trails, playground fun, swimming pools and more are a part of the ongoing summer schedule across our parks, recreation centers, golf courses, specialty leisure facilities and family attractions including Bahama Beach Water Park and Fair Park.
And here at Fair Park, we just completed our Summer Music Series in the historic Band Shell, where popular artists like Billy Gilman, Expose, Taylor Dayne and others performed, and our Friday Jazz Nights at the Old Mill Inn with the amazing local band Sandaga 813. Adding to the fun was the weekly King Bicycle Racing series and the annual Texas Black Invitational Rodeo. All of these, along with activities hosted by the museums at Fair Park, attracted a variety of fans from across the state.
This month, the Science of Art Summer Camp at the African American Museum continues through July 21. The National Fantasy Football Convention will be here July 14-16. The Cotton Bowl will feature a dramatic battle between pro soccer teams Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club Santos Laguna on July 2. Starplex Pavilion will host concerts by Third Eye Blind, Nickelback and others.
Finally, there is the annual Fair Park Fourth event with fun activities for kids and adults, as well as great food and beverages, music, State Fair of Texas Midway, spectacular fireworks and more.
We at Fair Park invite you to Get Your Play On this month. Explore fairpark.org to find more activities and events.
We hope to see you soon!
