April is National Volunteer Month

We are most thankful for the efforts and support of Fair Park volunteers.

April is National Volunteer Month, where across the country we express thanks to the more than 62 million Americans who generously give nearly 8 billion hours a year for causes they believe in and that make our communities a better place.

Last year the Dallas Park and Recreation Department had more than 300 individuals and groups who volunteered 247,152 hours of their time and energies valued at $5.78 million dollars. Many of them spent time at Fair Park assisting with planting flowers and trees, working special events, serving as docents at our museums, and a host of other projects throughout the park. Corporate groups, scout troops, church clubs, and a variety of individuals of all ages take time out of their own busy schedules to volunteer their skills and talents. We are most thankful for their efforts and support.

Volunteering also has added benefits. Health researchers, physicians, and scientists all affirm that volunteers benefit both physically and mentally. Statistics now prove that lower blood pressure, less stress, and even longer lives are all associated with volunteering.
