Fair Park Band Shell

An entertainment venue that's a "movie star" in its own right

THE FAIR PARK BAND SHELL DEBUTED AS PART OF THE TEXAS CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION IN 1936.

The shell itself is concrete and sports a stage that is 30 feet deep with a 50-foot frontage. Behind the shell is a building with dressing and rehearsal rooms.

In front of the shell is a fan-shaped audience area that rises in the back to an elevation of 25 feet. This area seats 5,000 people, who enjoy a variety of entertainment acts that perform during the State Fair of Texas.

Surrounding the audience area are 30-foot-tall, concrete-and-stucco pylons providing light and sound.

You say the Band Shell looks familiar? That's because one of the scenes in the 1960 film "State Fair" starring Ann Margaret and Pat Boone took place here.
