Who ever said anime and science have to be kept separate? Certainly not the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park! Come learn about the aquatic inspirations behind several of the most popular animes with special themed talks and special guests!

Daily themed talks will be occurring at 10:30 a.m. at the aquarium's indoor shark habitat. To learn more about these themed talks, check out the summaries listed below.

Want to meet a REAL LIFE mermaid? Mermaid Ashton will be hanging out at Stingray Bay every day of A-Kon from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. You DON'T want to miss out on this photo op!

Children's Aquarium at Fair Park is also happy to offer A-Kon attendees admission at its group rate of $6. To be eligible for this discount, A-Kon attendees MUST show their convention badge at the ticket booth! Attendees without a badge will not be eligible for the discount will need to pay the aquarium's regular admission price of $8.

Costumes are welcome inside the aquarium. However, no masks are allowed.

Thursday, June 27 – 10:30 a.m.
One Ocean
Steady aquatic based commerce is dependent on a healthy ocean – and, yes, that includes PIRATES! One Ocean seeks to explain how we are all connected to our blue planet in more ways than we may realize.

Friday, June 28 – 10:30 a.m.
Real Life Pokemon
When you have a world of over 800 unique characters, chances are you are going to draw inspiration from the natural world at some point! From the obvious to the obscure, learn more about the connections between your favorite pocket monsters and the animals which live at the Children’s Aquarium.

Saturday, June 29 – 10:30 a.m.
Fish Quirks
Electrical powers which can ZAP over 600 volts, bodies which can completely change appearance, and healing properties that extend into the realm of regeneration… This isn’t science fiction, they are real behaviors of real aquatic animals. Dive into the world of “fish quirks” as we explore the super powers of our fishy friends.

Sunday, June 30th – 10:30 a.m.
Jellyfish Princesses
There’s plenty to obsess about over jellyfish. They’re 98 percent water, don’t even have a heart, yet they are some of the most hardy species out there. Just like princesses, though, they live a very easy life floating along in the ocean. Learn more about the interesting life of jellies in this talk dedicated purely to them!
